FSM Student Services
When offered in the context of awareness, massage therapy can create a powerful opportunity for you to grow and change. You will receive massage on a nearly daily basis and will be frequently invited to explore the source of tension in your own life. You may find that you need extra support to meet the challenges that come as you engage in the community process at FSM.
While many of the instructors are skilled facilitators, you may find that you need extra attention and time to explore and understand the change that is happening in your life. As a part of the cost of tuition, all students are offered the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a school advisor.
We have two skilled and unique facilitators available by appointment most days after school.

Michael Broas, LMT graduated from FSM in 1999 and joyfully accepted the opportunity to join the staff. He currently teaches in Foundations of Bodywork and Swedish Massage, Polarity Therapy, Communication Skills and Elderly Massage. Michael is also on the staff at the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute in Boulder, Colorado, and teaches their advanced training for bodyworkers about trauma and developmental wounding and how these manifest in the body. The principles of this model of therapy are based on the Hakomi Method of body-centered psychotherapy, which has also been referred to as mindfulness based, assisted self-study.
Michael brings a wealth of personal experience from his own healing path and holds that each individual already has their own answers. By encouraging self-exploration through mindfulness and by pacing the process according to their present state and needs, Michael trusts in the individual’s capacity for self-guidance and self-organization. He believes that a state of "loving presence," when brought into the presence of another, evokes that state in the other, allowing their own unique beauty and wisdom to come forth.

Josie Davenport, LMT, LCSW has been a licensed massage therapist for more than 20 years and is a licensed clinical social worker. She has taught courses in the evaluation and treatment of injuries, deep tissue bodywork, gestalt communication skills and Anat Baniel Method® transformational movement lessons. Josie is a Certified Feldenkrais® Practitioner with over 15 years of advanced training and experience working with infants and children with special needs, anti-aging and improving performance skills in adults.
In her work with students at the school, Josie is highly skilled at listening without interpreting. She helps students to learn to use their own sense of truth to guide them, to help them recognize their own answers, and to move towards clarity. After working with Josie, students often report a sense of lightness, a relief of tension and easier breathing.
